"Family Ties: Unbreakable, Unforgettable"

President’s Address

It is with immense gratitude and pride that I reflect upon the 49th Robinson Roots Family Reunion, held this year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This gathering marked our highest attendance in nearly three decades—a testament to the strength and endurance of our family ties. The return of many long-absent relatives, coupled with the warm embrace of first-time attendees, created an atmosphere of camaraderie, joy, and mutual appreciation. We are especially grateful to the Philadelphia Chapter for their outstanding hospitality and superb organization, which contributed to a truly remarkable event.

Review of Events and Milestones

·       Record Attendance: The 49th Reunion achieved the highest turnout in over 30 years, an accomplishment underlining the enduring appeal and significance of our annual gathering.

·       Friday Evening Participation: Room reservations and attendance on Friday evening reached levels not seen in more than three decades, signaling robust engagement and enthusiasm from family members.

·       Comprehensive Birthday Celebration: For the first time, all birthdays were honored through performances and presentations. The July celebrants were distinguished with the most outstanding presentation.

·       Philadelphia Chapter Activities: The host chapter organized enriching tours and activities, including visits to the African American Museum, the Fashion District Arcade and Bowling, Reading Terminal, and a guided tour of Philadelphia’s historic landmarks. Each event was met with substantial participation and positive feedback.

·       Formal Banquet: The Family 'Black-tie' Banquet welcomed over 150 attendees, the largest gathering of its kind in three decades, fostering a sophisticated and celebratory atmosphere.

·       Distinguished Guests: President Emeritus Charles and Barbara Robinson honored us with their presence after several years’ absence, reinforcing the legacy and continuity of our family traditions.

·       Family Reflections: Four thoughtful reflections on past reunions and family members highlighted the deep connections that unite us.

·       Academic Excellence: Twenty (20) applications were submitted for the DRD Scholarship, a record number. Winners in the four categories presented their submissions, showcasing the academic promise within our family.

·       Branch Recognition: The Benjamin and Frederick Branches were jointly recognized as "Branch of the Year," each with over forty-five members present at the banquet.

·       In Memoriam: A special tribute was delivered for Shawn D. Daniels, our former Treasurer, who passed away on New Year's Day, 2025.

·       Evening Celebration: The traditional Saturday evening dance, led by family DJ Tyrone Davis, drew the reunion to a spirited close for the evening.

·       Sunday Worship: The morning service featured stirring praise and worship directed by Tarrett Davis and the Family Choir, followed by a Memorial Service for the eleven (11) family members lost since the last reunion.

·       Inspirational Message: Reverend Dr. Michael King, Philadelphia Chapter, delivered a powerful and moving address, further strengthened by communal prayers.

·       Executive Board Elections: The Family Meeting included productive discussions and the election and pinning of the new Executive Board members: Vice President – Tarrett Davis; Treasurer – S. Patrick Myers; Assistant Treasurer – Wanda P. Brown; Chaplain – Twana D. Durant.

·       Strategic Initiatives: The Executive Board President reported on the “State of the Reunion,” progress on the Family Strategic Plan, and introduced a new “Procedure for Recognitions”, allowing for formal acknowledgment of family members’ significant contributions.

·       Future Reunion Site: Following a family vote, Memphis, Tennessee was chosen as the location for our 51st Reunion in 2027 instead of Nashville, Tennessee.

·       Family Fees: Members are reminded to remit Family Fees/Dues directly to the Treasurer, regardless of reunion attendance.

·       50th Golden Anniversary Preview: The South Carolina Chapter presented plans for our landmark 50th Reunion in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, scheduled for September 4–7, 2026, and distributed "Save-the-Date" cards.

·       Family ZOOM Calls: Expect two (2) Family Zoom calls to keep all updated on the plans and activities for our 50th Anniversary.  Time periods – 1) January 2026 and 2) May 2026.

·       Family Luncheon: Over 100 family members enjoyed an exquisite luncheon at Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant, promoting intergenerational dialogue and unity.

·       Youth Celebration: The Sunday evening program highlighted our youth, featuring music, talent presentations, and group activities, ensuring their voices and talents were recognized.

·       Prizes and Raffles: The Philadelphia Chapter and Executive Board enhanced the festivities with prize raffles, cash awards, and gift baskets, fostering a spirit of joy and engagement.

ATTENTION: FAMILY NEWS!!

Hello Robinson Roots Family,

Belated Happy 2025 New Year to some and blessings to all!  We, the Executive Board of the Robinson Roots Family Reunion, Inc., continue to meet, plan, and prepare for not only our upcoming Family Reunion, but are strategically implementing measures to improve the effectiveness, operation and quality of our Reunions and efforts to be more supportive of our Family needs.  As a result, I have some major news to announce in which I will share below.

First, our Philadelphia Chapter is working feverishly to plan our upcoming 2025 Reunion and has sent out the first ‘Family Letter’ for our 49th Reunion this weekend by mail and email.  (Go the 'MENU' in the upper right hand corner of this page under the '49th Reunion' tab to see the first 'Family Letter' for our 49th Reunion.  Additional Family information can be found under the 'MENU' as well.)

Also, please do not forget about our annual Election nominations (note: 3 positions up for election) and the Scholarship applications celebrating our Youth at our Annual Family Reunions. (See 'MENU' under 'ELECTION '25' and 'SCHOLARSHIP '25' for detailed information about the elections and scholarship applications.

MAJOR FAMILY NEWS!!!

The following issue was raised by a number of family members: “Why the ‘2020 Virtual Reunion’ is not acknowledged or counted when celebrating the years of our Robinson Roots Reunions?”

During the 2020 COVID Pandemic year, the Board voted to postpone the 44th Reunion till the year 2021 where we could meet in person.  Therefore, the 44th Reunion was held in 2021 instead of 2020 even though we had a quite successful ‘2020 Virtual Reunion.’  After much discussion, the Executive Board voted to recognize all the Reunion years whether we met in-person or virtual.  So, this year 2025 is our 49th Reunion (including all celebrations since the first in 1977) and not the 48th.  This change also resulted in three (3) adjustments to our Reunions:

1)      For the year 2025 Reunion hosted by the Philadelphia Chapter, this Reunion will be the 49th Annual Robinson Roots Family Reunion.

2)      For our golden 50th Annual Reunion in year 2026, the South Carolina Chapter will host the Reunion along with assistance from the Executive Board and all Chapters.

3)      The Executive Board will host the 51st Annual Reunion in year 2027 in the State of Tennessee and the rotation for hosting will continue with Connecticut in 2028, New York in 2029, Philadelphia in 2030, and South Carolina in 2031.

Additionally, the Executive Board approved a new procedure for ‘Family Recognitions in which we will share shortly as well during our Family Zoom Call to be held in July 2025 to provide more updates about the Reunion and our operations.

Please begin making your hotel reservations as soon as possible after you receive the first 49th Reunion ‘Family Letter’ either by mail or email.  Look for more updated information on our website Robinson Roots Family Reunion, Inc. (RRFR, Inc.).

I look forward to seeing all of you soon.  God bless you all!

Always,

W. Charles Becoat, President
